The fact that it worked fine in GNOME might be because, as far as I know, GNOME by default has optimus manager set up and running for relevant laptops.ĭo not use nouveau. If you installed it prior, it probably botched your Xorg configs. Lutris and I think Steam automatically uses the nvidia-prime way of selecting the Nvidia card too, even if you don't install it.ĭo not use bumblebee, optimus-manager, etc. This works perfectly fine by just using nvidia-prime. and use the Nvidia card for games or specific applications. You'll probably use the Intel card for general use, browsers, etc. But if not overclocking, don't bother with this at all. Otherwise you cannot overclock or undervolt. It achieves the best integration of the Nvidia card on Optimus laptops. If you want to undervolt / overclock, by using GreenWithEnvy or manual configuration, there is a trick that involves some editing of the Xorg config files. I also have an Optimus laptop, I do Pacman -Syu at least once a week, obsessively, and I haven't had any driver issues or other issues with Nvidia for the last 2 years. You just need to install the nvidia-prime package, and use prime-run in front of a command to use the nvidia card for that program. It's bad on Windows and even worse on Linux, since Nvidia as a company vehemently hated Linux until recently. Optimus is a marketing feature sent from hell.
